Pejo is the first Plastic Free Ski Area in the world
Val di Pejo green
The first eco-sustainable plastic-free project in the world is born on the Pejo 3000 Ski Area in Val di Pejo. The ski area in the Stelvio National Park inaugurated the ski season last December 6th 2019 and in the 3 Shelters located along the ski slopes there are already banned, crockery and plastic cups, as well as ketchup and mayonnaise sachets.
Our Ski Area makes a green choice and says NO to disposable plastic.
The project just started will see a continuous development in the coming years, in fact the Ski Area Pejo 3000 is aiming high. He will want to eliminate the safety nets on the track (in plastic) replacing them with eco-sustainable materials, as well as the daily multi-pass cards of the ski passes. In this case, fortunately, we still talk about recyclable plastic.
This initiative was launched following the discovery of millions of particles of plastic components on Alpine glaciers, including the Forni glacier (in the Ortles-Cevedale Group).
The alarming data encouraged our local administrations, including the Val di Sole Tourist Board, to take a quick decision
We live in the Stelvio National Park, the preservation of our territory is important to us. Since long time in fact in Val di Pejo only renewable energy is used produced with three small hydroelectric plants that guarantee a production higher than the needs of us residents and commercial users.
"Green energy" is fed into the grid and contributes to increasing the national share produced with renewables. For the heating of each building (or almost), from the houses, to the public facilities, from the hotels to the Pejo Spas, a wood chip heating plant is used, which is fed with waste from forestry operations, and to artificially snow the slopes only recovery water is used.
The Stelvio National Park has obtained the certification of European Sustainable Tourism!
